The Development & Planning Authority has released three newly updated Guernsey Technical Standards, marking an important move toward aligning local building guidance with the latest fire‑safety measures adopted in England and Wales, including recommendations arising from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
Both volumes of Part B have now been revised, with the most significant updates formally embedded within the regulatory framework.
The changes include a formal restriction under Regulation 11 that bans combustible materials in and on external walls, updated provisions within Regulation 24a relating to fire‑safety information, and the removal of national classes for reaction to fire and roofs.
There is also a new recommendation for more than one common stair in residential blocks over 18m, together with strengthened design provisions supporting the use of evacuation lifts in tall residential buildings.
The third release, Guernsey Technical Standard 11, is a complete new edition. It reflects recent amendments to the Building Regulations Statutory Instrument, specifically tightening restrictions on the use of flammable materials on the exterior of relevant buildings.
These documents come into force on 1 September 2026.
